The 18th annual World International Family Therapy Association Congress will focus on ways of coping with problems and healing in these constant changing challenging times
Buenos Aires, Argentina, will host this years annual IFTA Congress between the 17th and 20th of March in the Panamericano Hotel. Each year, the IFTA congress brings together prominent practitioners of family therapy to share knowledge and promote research, education, sound practice and cooperation.
More than 700 family therapists and practitioners are expected to participate in this years Congress, which will focus on sharing findings, approaches to problems and ways of coping with them; helping to heal hurting families, couples and children in various cultures; and fostering mental health and growth in challenging times.
Among the preeminent thinkers and scholars in family therapy who will speak at the Congress:
- Marie-Luise Conen, PhD, director of the Context Institute for Systemic Therapy and Consultation, Berlin; - Sergio Bernales, MD, a psychiatrist, director of the Chilean Institute of Family Therapy and director of its Psychosocial Department; - Kenneth V. Hardy, PhD, Professor of family therapy at Drexel University in Philadelphia and director of the Eikenberg Institute for Relationships in New York City, USA; - Jaakko Seikkula, PhD, Professor of psychotherapy, Vice-Dean in the department of psychology and responsible for the Multidisciplinary Doctoral Program in Psychotherapy Research at the University of Jyvaskyla, Finland; - Sandra M. Stith, PhD, a widely respected authority on understanding and treating intimate partner violence, based on her research and clinical practice.
The World Family Therapy Congress provides magnificent opportunities for face-to-face sharing of ideas, accelerated learning, and networking with colleagues and leaders in the field of family therapy from various parts of the globe, explains Congress Chair and President William Nichols, EdD, on the events website. A new feature in the 2010 congress will be Social Networking to aid attendees in making social and professional contacts, he adds.
The Congress, organized by Paragon Conventions for the third consecutive year, serves as an examination of the role of family therapy as it plays in the transformation of families throughout the world. It emphasizes the examination of the process of coexistence, healing, and reconciliation as it relates to trauma, violence, abuse, and suffering throughout the world.
