Weve all heard of Claude Johnson, fraud, famous or something in between, and nows a good time to set the record straight. After hours spent on his websites reading thousands of comments left on them, we wondered if those comments were indeed left by believers of his popular guitar lesson DVDs or if it was some PR trick Johnson employed. We were open to wherever it led us. We also thought maybe some bad press in the beginning of his career, a lack of good business sense, maybe he was short staffed or maybe the few claims of dishonesty were true; either way, the goal was to finally get to the bottom of it.
After we randomly selected 101 comments, all from his various sites, we delved into the IP addresses. Surely if they were "planted", the IP addresses would tell the tale. We found seven comments from three different IP addresses. The comments were similar, but the three addresses were from various states. This was clearly nothing more than three of his fans who commented on a few of his sites. These were the only similarities. We discovered IP addresses from the Caribbean, Japan, Argentina, Canada, the U.S. and several other countries.
After having spent considerable time speaking with Guitarist Claude Johnson, via telephone and email, an image began to emerge of a man who only wants to share the magic of the guitar. His goal, as he says, was to provide solid guitar lessons, via DVDs and market his name and his product. During one interview, he was asked, "Why are there so many negative comments?" His reply, "When we first started out, we outsourced some of our clerical responsibilities. Although the dream was to make it big and become the name in guitar quality lessons, we had no idea it would become so popular so fast. We were producing the DVDs as fast as we could. Unfortunately, the ball was dropped, there were phone calls that didnt get returned and a handful of customers who decided to return the DVDs and who anticipated a no-fuss money back guarantee. They were promised that. Although I dont blame our clerical help, they were doing as they were instructed, there were those customers who were treated unfairly in that I missed the opportunity to handle their problems in a timely manner. Plain and simple, I dropped the ball. There were never any fraudulent attempts, I have always stood by my guarantees and I assure you, that very expensive lesson cost far more than a few lost customers. Ive spent every day since then to erase that stain on my reputation and to rebuild the lost trust."
