On the first day day of 2009, a new era dawned on Galatta.com. The site was awarded the Best Website award by the MGR-Sivaji Academy. The award, presented by Mr. L.M.M. Muralidharan, Mr. Kalipuli S. Dhanu & Mr. Kalipulli G. Sekaran (President of Tamilnadu Film Distributors Association), was accepted on behalf of Galatta.com by Mr. Girish Ramdas, President, Galatta.com and Mrs. Shri Shakthi Girish, Editor, Galatta Cinema.
The award was part of the Popular awards given by the Academy to achievers from the Tamil film fraternity. These awards were instituted 23 years ago and carry a lot of prestige and recogniton. This year, 82 awards for excellence in Tamil Cinema were given away.
Held at the Madras University Hall, the award ceremony was attended by the glitteratti of Tamil Cinema.
