Great Deccan Software launches Web 2.0 software development and quality assurance practice
Hyderabad, India - June, 25 2008 - Great Deccan Software a provider of software development and quality assurance services has announced the launch of its Web 2.0 practice, a services offering to help businesses understand and benefit from the next evolution of the world wide web. The next generation of the internet referred to by many as Web 2.0 is redefining the way businesses manage their customers. Instead of a passive one way relationship, Web 2.0 concepts of social computing and crowd sourcing enables them to offer a more participatory experience to their customers. Companies who understand and adopt Web 2.0 are able to initiate new ideas quickly, validate and develop them collaboratively with their customers and create a buzz around their products using the scale and reach of the internet.
"Web 2.0 is nothing short of a renaissance, it is a fundamental shift in how the world uses the internet" said Sajid Mohammad, managing director of Great Deccan Software. Instead of a passive read only web, Web 2.0 is an active, immersive and read-write web that allows people to express themselves through blogs, wikis and forums using text, pictures, audio and video. “This idea of collective intelligence is something that businesses can tap into and redefine the way they interact with their customers and bring products and services to market”, Mohammad said.
Companies like Nike, Proctor and Gamble, Starbucks and even Wal-Mart are adopting Web 2.0 concepts and now see their customers as active participants in value creation rather than passive consumers. Wal-Mart recently announced that it will allow its customers to rate its products online. Nike a leader in sports brands has been successfully running a program called Nike ID that allows customers to design their own pair of shoes and selects winning designs through a well participated contest. In partnership with Apple Computers, it launched a program called Nike+ that allows runners to automatically upload data to their iPod nano, set and track milestones and connect to a website to map favorite runs, form groups and create challenges.

Web 2.0 is powered by technologies such as Asynchronous JavaScript (AJAX), Microsoft SilverLight and Adobe Flash that allows developers to create immersive customer web experiences. Lightweight protocols like Really Simple Syndication (RSS), Representational state transfer (REST) and Atom allows for easy sharing of information between websites, devices and applications. Scripting languages such as Ruby and PHP is accelerating web development. Great Deccan Web 2.0 practice has experts in these technologies. “We understand what it takes to develop a Web 2.0 experience and have proven skills in the technologies that enable it” stated Mohammad.
In a recent Mckinsey survey, 70% of real businesses that use Web 2.0 concepts and technologies said that they do so to connect with their customers, 51% to interface with their suppliers and 75% to manage collaboration among their employees. Companies should embrace Web 2.0 to create greater brand loyalty, find new up sell and cross sell opportunities and enable collaborative innovation to build products and services that are guaranteed to hit home with their consumers.
