Arlington, VA September 18, 2008 -- The National Training and Simulation Association's internet television network, SimTV.org, now features Vigilance™, an improvised Explosive Device (IED) detection training tool. An award-winning serious game at I/ITSEC (the world's largest modeling and simulation exhibition), Vigilance™ provides highly realistic environments for instruction on avoidance of IEDs.
The Harrington Group, developers of Vigilance™ chose SimTV to showcase their entry, which won "Peoples' Choice" over stiff competition at the 2007 Serious Games Showcase and Challenge, one of the world's premiere serious games events, held at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference in Orlando in November of last year. Harrington plans to enter eight new serious games in the upcoming 2008 Serious Games Challenge, scheduled at I/ITSEC from December 1-4, in Orlando. Vigilance™ was designed to help U.S. military personnel locate and identify Improvised Explosive Devices of all types and in all locations, using two state-of-the-art gaming engines to create a nearly photo-realistic detection simulation.
At the Serious Games Showcase and Challenge, game developers in several categories are invited to enter game-based technologies and solutions that improve training as well as teams. The deadline for the 2008 Challenge has been extended to September 30th due to a large number of entrants. Over 16,000 attendees at I/ITSEC can vote on the entries.
