Jake Records, a leading independent record label, today announced the signing of The ExBox Boys. Unique in every way possible, The ExBox Boys hail from Washington state, and focus their rock and pop-driven songs on popular XBox video games. The band's early success has seen them leading the MySpace.com Top Artist charts for weeks, and achieving more than 1 million song plays in a very short period of time.
In a continuing effort to diversify the label's offerings, and break the mold of how record labels are supposed to look at, and do things, the company is set to market the band's debut offering in video game circles in addition to traditional music outlets. "In our early research on this project we quickly realized that this is an unprecedented opportunity to marry two giant forms of entertainment together, recorded music and gaming," said Jake Records Vice President/Artist Relations Dan Diaz. "These songs relate to gamers in ways never-before achieved and further personalize the experience. We're super excited about this," he added.
The ExBox Boys are in the studio working to complete their upcoming debut LP, which is expected in stores in early 2009. The album will feature songs based around such hit video games as Halo 3, Grand Theft Auto IV, Call of Duty and many more.
"You've never heard anything like The ExBox Boys before, and we can't wait to show the world what they're doing," said Jake Records CEO and Founder Scott Thomas. "Their sound is incredible, their songs are very well-written and produced at one of the best studios on the west coast. The group just wrapped production on their first radio single "Calling You Up" which is based on the popular game Braid. "I just got the game a few days ago and we ran into Robert Lang Studios in Shoreline and recorded what I think is our best song yet," said the group's lead vocalist P-Box. "I thought the story line was really cool! The game is filled with little puzzles, and he needs to save the princess. It's the perfect back-drop for a love slash pop song. We spent alot of time on this one," he added.
The legend of The ExBox Boys is that they came to be a group when brought together by a figure known only as "Grandfather" who passed along to them the mission to protect a special Orb. The group is comprised of four members, P-Box, D-Box, B-Box, and Beat Box.
P-Box is the oldest and wisest of all of The Ex Box Boys and The Ex Box Boys look up to P-Box as a older brother and leader. P-Box was reluctant to become a member of The Ex Box Boys and did so only at the insistence of Grandfather. His favorite XBox game is Call of Duty 4. He does guitar and vocals for the group.
D-Box was born in Bellevue, Washington, close to Redmond woods. D-Box loves animals and has two cats and two dogs, and once lived in Australia to study. He plays bass for the group. D-Box's favorite game is Rock Band.
B-Box also hails from Bellevue, Washington. When he's not practicing his guitar skills, he can be found at a burrito hut near you. A lover of all things beans and tortillas, he washes them down with Peach green bubble tea. He is the group's lead guitarist. His favorite game is Halo 3.
Beat Box was raised in Stockton, California but now lives in Seattle. A well-known drummer, he spends lots of time practicing and performing. When he's not drumming up a new tune, Beat Box gets down with Call of Duty 4 and World War on his XBox.
On signing with Jake Records, B-Box said "After looking over more than a dozen label offers the whole band unanimously agreed to go with Jake Records because they are committed to our project, and understand the special nature of what we're doing. For us that is what it's all about," he said.
