Atlanta, GA May 19, 2008 -- Mediacurrent, an Atlanta based interactive firm, is proud to launch the newly redesigned website for Emory Universitys Michael C. Carlos Museum. Utilizing the Drupal content management system (CMS) the site will serve as a web portal for showcasing one of the Southeasts premier collections of Classical, Ancient Egyptian, Near Eastern, Ancient American, African, and Asian art, as well as a collection of works on paper from the Renaissance to the present. The museum provides unique opportunities for education and enrichment in the community and promotes interdisciplinary teaching and research at Emory University. Annual participation from 100,000 visitors, 30,000 children, and almost 1 million internet users of Odyssey Online, Carlos Museums interactive website accessed by classrooms around the world, reveals the Museums commitment to making art and artifacts relevant and accessible to all.

The Mediacurrent team was led by web developer Trent Wyman who commented, that "Drupals powerful taxonomy system, fine grained security, and distributed architecture made it a natural choice to capture the in-depth functionality Carlos was looking for. This launch is the collaborative effort of many different parties and were glad to have assisted the Carlos Museum in executing their technical vision."

After years of continuous growth, the structure of the website needed to be overhauled to improve navigation and the overall visitor experience. The website has a new template system that offers a much more consistent look and feel and overall site structure. The creative work was completed by Atlanta based firm Times 3 Design.

Other new features to the site include:

  • Calendar of Events - the site has a dynamic events calendar with a listing of podcasts for audio downloads.
  • Case Studies - visitors can now view detailed case studies that outline the restoration of various pieces within the Carlos Museum.
  • Inventory - all of the museums extensive bookshop inventory is now displayed on the site.
Kirk Leitch, project manager at Times 3 Design, who led the Emory web team said, that "the Drupal CMS will now allow Emory administrators to seamlessly update and edit content within their site. The redesigned site is an upgrade over the previous version, especially when it comes to being able to display the amazing artistic pieces the Carlos Museum has to offer. The alliance we formed with Mediacurrent and the specialty expertise they offered in Drupal was critical to our launch."
