Technology PR:

Netsweeper Inc., a global provider of Internet content filtering solutions, is excited to announce that its core content categorisation technology has been enhanced with the integration of real-time virus and malware scanning technology. With new web content being posted every minute of every day, the likelihood of malicious threats also being posted is a certainty. When Internet requests are made by Netsweeper users, this innovative development will scan and identify these new threats in real-time and then publish them to Netsweeper's global network of Content Naming Servers. As a result, Netsweeper customers around the world will be protected from such threats instantaneously.

"One of the core strengths of the Netsweeper product is its ability to quickly and accurately scan and categorise new web content, whatever it may be. However, the reality is that when you access a recently posted page containing malicious code, you are still vulnerable to infection with typical filtering tools. With Netsweeper's real-time processing technology, our customers are protected immediately," commented Andrew Coutts, President of Netsweeper. "To put this into perspective, since launching our real-time, virus scanning technology, Netsweeper has been detecting an average of 350 new viruses each and every day."

In addition to identifying new malicious code in real-time, Netsweeper will continue to use a variety of third party commercial feeds to protect users from the fraudulent dangers imposed by phishing sites.

"With the integration of a number of reputable third party lists combined with the enhancements made to our core engines, we know our core solution is better aligned with the compilation of tools provided by the Unified Threat Management players in the market," added Coutts. "These latest improvements are further testament of Netsweeper's mission to remain the leading provider of advanced web content filtering tools in the market."

As a result of these latest improvements, Netsweeper customers will receive the following benefits:

  • Management will rest assured that sensitive data is safe from malicious attacks and possible theft through spyware and phishing.
  • Productivity will remain positive as 'computer crashes' resulting from viral attacks on the network or computer stations will be drastically minimized.
  • IT managers will spend less time 'cleaning' networks and individual computers (including laptops) and spend more time focused on critical, value added tasks such as reporting and system maintenance.
