San Francisco, CA September 18, 2008 -- SmileOnMyMac has released PDFpen 4.0, the latest version of its popular and affordable PDF editing tool for Mac OS X. PDFpen promotes a paperless workflow by enabling users to add signatures and fill out forms without printing PDF documents. With this new version, users can perform basic OCR (Optical Character Recognition) on scanned text documents so they can be edited with the ease of other PDFs.

PDFpen 4.0 features significant UI enhancements focused on increasing productivity, including a new document sidebar for viewing thumbnails, a simplified Properties window, and enhanced toolbar controls. Other new features in PDFpen 4.0 include Microsoft Word document import, printing of notes and comments, additional mark-up options, and file compatibility upgrades.

PDFpenPro, which has all of the features of PDFpen, has also been upgraded. PDFpenPro 4.0 users can now create and edit document Table of Contents, in addition to being able to create and edit cross-platform fillable PDF forms.

"We know that users want to select and edit text in scanned documents," said SmileOnMyMac co-founder Philip Goward. "Now, with the new on-demand OCR capability, PDFpen enables that, providing a seamless PDF editing workflow."
