Technology PR:

Boston, MA September 22, 2008 -- PrismTech™, an acknowledged leader in advanced software integration and infrastructure solutions, today announced the release of OpenFusion® TAO v1.6, the latest release of its commercially supported open-source CORBA Object Request Broker (ORB) middleware. PrismTech's products "Power Netcentricity" to help optimize resource management and provide superior information on events and conditions needed to empower decision makers.

OpenFusion TAO is a mature, feature rich, high performance C++ ORB. It supports the very latest version of the CORBA® standard (CORBA 3) and over the past few years has seen massive adoption and wide scale deployment in important business sectors such as Aerospace and Defense, Commercial Telecommunications, and Manufacturing.

It is PrismTech's belief that OpenFusion TAO 1.6 will continue to offer the lowest cost of ownership and most advanced features when compared to other leading ORB middleware, further justifying the continuing trend for users to switch to open-source and away from proprietary ORB technology.

OpenFusion TAO v1.6 is the most robust and most highly optimized TAO release to date. It offers excellent platform coverage and support for the very latest operating systems and compilers. By providing application developers with pre-built, ready-to-go distributions, in standard, optimized and debug flavors, PrismTech also offers developers unrivaled flexibility and usability with OpenFusion TAO v1.6.

By embracing the open-source model combined with the industry's best commercial products, PrismTech provides the most innovative and cost effective solutions available and is committed to their ongoing development. PrismTech offers tailored solutions to meet the needs of large projects and our simple but effective business model helps ensure predictable costs.

PrismTech's COTS product development and support processes are applied to produce "industrial strength" open-source technology that customers can be confident will help make their projects successful. Many customers have already switched from their incumbent ORB technology to OpenFusion TAO. With fears over security of supply, as some existing vendors fail to invest in and move away from CORBA technology, the knock on effect is that the trend for CORBA customers to move to innovative, cost-effective open-source ORB technology will continue.

OpenFusion TAO v1.6 complies with the CORBA 3 standard and implements many advanced features such as Portable Interceptors (PI), Objects By Value (OBV) and CORBA Messaging, including Asynchronous Method Invocation (AMI). In order to support efficient, predictable, and scalable quality of service (QoS) end-to-end OpenFusion TAO provides an implementation of the Real-time CORBA specification.

OpenFusion TAO 1.6 will be initially available on the following platforms:

  • Solaris 9 (32 bit), 10 (32 and 64 bit) - Sun Studio 9, 10, 11, gcc 3.x - SPARC
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (32 and 64 bit), 5 (32 bit) - gcc 3.x, 4.x, - x86, Itanium
  • MS Windows (32 bit) - MS Visual C++ 8.0 - x86
  • HP-UX 11i - aCC 3.x - PA-RISC
  • AIX 5.3 (32 bit) - xlc 8.0 - POWER5
  • LynxOS 5.0 (32 bit) - gcc 4.x - PowerPC

"I am sure that the new features in this release of OpenFusion TAO will further cement it as the C++ ORB of choice for developers seeking a high quality, innovative low cost of ownership CORBA solution," said Andrew Foster, Product Manager, PrismTech. "For customers who do not already use OpenFusion TAO but would like to leverage both its technical and commercial benefits, PrismTech have developed huge expertise in assisting our customers to migrate from their existing ORB implementations in the most efficient and risk free way possible".
