QuantSports - Quantitative analysis applied to sports
What is Quantitatve analysis? Its what makes up the bulk of day trading in the financial markets, in short it directly refers to the use of computerized mathematical analysis to support decision making, make business forecasts or investment recommendations. The aim with QuantSports - Betfair Trading is to expand a previously undeveloped niche in the application of these advanced technical indicators when applied to the rapidly expanding betting exchange markets.
What makes the markets go up and down? Is it emotions, fundamentals or weight of money? Well, its a combination of all three principles because the markets are choatic. What Betfair has done is provide a platform for what can only be seen as the most accurate portrayal of human emotion in the world. Very simply it has been statistically proven that more people place bets on sports than bet on the stock market. On top of this there is a wider range of people placing bets from all corners of society. Much like the futures markets there is a limited time factor associated with sporting events and it is easy to see that the markets can become very eratic close to a time when the event starts.
Now, heres the question on everybodys lips. How do we predict the extremely complex markets movements discussed above? Its safe to say that no one has yet created that black-box system which is the be and end all of holy grails. What can be said is that you can significantly help yourself with an advantage.
How does the software work?
In short what the software does is communicate with the Betfair API and collect data on a user specificied event. After it has done this it puts the data from the event into a form that Ninjatrader is able to read (it does this by constantly refreshing a database of prices). It then connects to the Ninjatrader platform and feeds this data into it. Trading Betfair
Arent there limits as a result of arbitrage?
The arbitrage that happens in the sports markets is not even the smallest fraction of that in the financial markets. Take Long Term Capital Management as an example; in a single day they would trade more in arbitrage than all of the international betting markets would in a year, and this is just one fund.
