Music has no boundaries -- residing in San Francisco, Devika has adapted her Hindustani Classical Music base and has created contemporary Sufi music, working across-continent with other musicians. Music has always been integral part of Devikas life. This is the 2nd milestone in her musical journey, the first being the release of her self-titled album with her popular song Kehnde Ne Naina that mesmerized all her listeners. Kehnde Ne Naina was also included in Sonys top selling sufi compilation Teri Deewani featuring other artists such as Kailash Kher, Rabbi Shergill, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Saheb and others. Devika has a rich and unique voice and the album is a beautiful expression of the soul presented in contemporary fashion.
Speaking on the occasion, Devika said I am very happy and excited that my album has finally released. Barkha Bahaar Aaye is my favorite song from the album and I hope people will enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed singing it. Saari Raat has been a culmination of cross continent collaboration across Asia & North America, made possible by the digitally connected world we live in. The emotional theme and core of the album is the wait, the search and the sweet pain in the real world of love, as metaphorically suggested by the name Saari Raat. The vocals traverse as necessary to meet the emotional and musical needs of each song. The music and sound of the album is more contemporary simple on the one hand and rich on the other.
The album brings together veteran musicians from India and Pakistan. The music has been produced by Shahi Hasan, one of the most esteemed music producers in Pakistan. Music for the album has been recorded in the US and Pakistan and the video for the main track, Barkha Bahaar has been directed, filmed and edited in San Francisco by Sam Burbank.
The wrap is unveiled now. Your door is open and you are all free to grab your collection of contemporary Sufi songs. So, what are you waiting for??
