Thoroughbreds Classic Cars at Shannons Sydney Sale

08 September 2009

Shannons have some great thoroughbred British and European sporting cars going under the hammer at their Sydney Classic Auction on October12.

Taking pride of place is a beautiful 1969 Aston Martin DB6 that was the subject of a total body, interior and mechanical restoration around five years ago.

Finished in Azure Metallic Blue with a contrasting Oxblood leather interior, the stunning Aston with its 3,995cc double overhead camshaft engine producing 210kW is expected to sell for around $220,000.
An alternative for British Grand Touring car lovers is an Australian-delivered 1987 Bentley Turbo R in good condition that is expected to go for around $45,000.

Early Porsche enthusiasts have a real barnfind at the auction - a genuine one-owner 1960 356B Super 90 coupe complete with rare factory-fitted accessories.

The Super 90 was the highest-performance version of the new 356B model introduced in 1959 and achieved its 90 horsepower from the models 1.6 litre four cylinder engine through light alloy cylinder heads and twin Solex carburettors that made it the most powerful Porsche push-rod engine of its era

Further adding to its appeal, the car being auctioned was ordered with the rare and highly desirable option of Rudge knock-off wheels and has a fitted leather suitcase.

While the car would benefit from some cosmetic and minor mechanical work, Shannons say it drives well and could either be enjoyed now, or because of its excellent provenance could form the basis of a more comprehensive restoration. It is expected to sell in the $40,000-$50,000 range.

Also from Germany is a very desirable 1986 BMW M6 Coupe with five-speed manual transmission that is being offered unreserved.

Delivered new in the UK, the car went to New Zealand some years ago and has more recently arrived in Australia, where it has benefited a country lifestyle.

Shannons say the car drives and presents very well, apart from a few stone chips and believe the 175,000 miles on its odometer to be genuine. It is expected to bring $20,000-$25,000 at the October 12 auction.
