The Quilt Fairy.com , a Missouri based online retailer, has become the first company to exhibit handmade, unique baby quilts at the prestigious Christmas bazaar held at Club de Golf Santa Anita in Guadalajara Mexico.
A broad selection of the companys handmade baby quilts was on display, including Summer Fun, Golf, Lady Bug and Firetruck, also 6-piece handmade baby quilt sets , quilted aprons, as well as some seasonal quilted toss pillows and the always popular quilted Christmas stockings Frosty, Holiday Cheer, Nativity, Jolly Snowman, and much more.
The Club de Golf Santa Anita was established in 1969 and is in the golf community of Santa Anita which is home for more than 800 families. It is one of the most exclusive gated communities in Guadalajara and for twelve years the Club has held a Christmas Bazaar, which attracts the very best in arts and crafts. The bazaar lasts for two days and provides a showplace for a lot of different crafts, however this is the first time quilts will be among the crafts displayed.
As a sewing technique, quilting has been around for thousands of years. The word quilt comes from the Latin word cuclita, meaning a padded or tied mattress. Quilting was known to the Ancient Egyptians as well as the Romans, but didnt arrive in Europe until the 12th century when the Crusaders returned from the Middle East. From the fourteenth century on, quilted tunics, which could be worn beneath armor, became standard fashionable attire for men. Quilting became popular in North America in colonial times. At first quilts were fashioned from single lengths of fabric and were usually designed to be used as bedding. Soon Pioneer families started to use another technique; quilts were made in small pieces and joined together in patterns. This later technique is the essence of the American quilt. In 2006, Quilters Newsletter Magazine estimated that 27 million Americans, 17 percent of US households, enjoy quilting as a hobby. For years women have kept quilted records of their hopes, dreams and beliefs ready to pass them on to their children says TheQuiltFairy.com founder Valentina Kaltchev. We are particularly proud of our handmade baby quilts and baby quilt sets but quilting is a technique which can be used to enhance all sorts of projects, including pillows and stockings. I was delighted to be able to offer quilted stockings and aprons as prizes in our Christmas Draw at the Club de Golf Santa Anita Christmas Bazaar.
In addition to hand made quilts in contemporary and traditional designs, shoppers at TheQuiltFairy.com will find baby quilt sets and quilted nursery accessories, all handmade by artisan quilt makers true to the traditions of their craft. Christmas is just around the corner says Valentina, and there is no better present for a new grandchild, niece or nephew, than the gift of warmth and comfort. Our quilts make ideal gifts for babys First Christmas. We combine fabrics and colors to bring beauty to the nursery and provide a unique keepsake for future generations.
