The improved free forums software includes an upgraded admin panel, which is user friendly and much easier to use for forum admins. Changes to the forums admin panel include a new forum dashboard highlighting activity and stats in your forum, a recommendations tab to let you know what changes you should make in your forum, an improved sidebar editor for your widgets, a blocked messages counter, and a theme editor that includes hue, saturation, and brightness - the only free forums provider to offer such theme customizations.
Recently, the free forums have switched over from threaded commenting to flat commenting based on user feedback. The flat topic system has made it easier to follow longer conversations happening within the forum. Quoting is supported in the threads. Pagination is also supported now, which makes it much easier to load long topics in your forums.
Other improvements to the free forums include: pages loading faster due to less javascript, locking threads (admins & Mods will be able to lock threads so that no more replies can take place.) A View Marker for where you left off. You'll now see a big 'View Marker' when your return to a topic, indicating the last post you read. Highlighted Tabs - Tabs will be highlighted depending if you're looking at the 'headlines' page, vs. a forum topic, vs. the members page.
